The Blue Thread for Agriculture

This is a critical time for everyone in Texas regarding water use both today and in the years to come. Even if it started raining today, we would be in a deficit for some time. And that ignores the millions of people that are on their way to Texas according to demographers. But no single industry is more in harm’s way than agriculture. Agriculture uses more water than any other in Texas, because it has to. It’s the essential for the production of food and fiber. I have described this as the Blue Thread for Agriculture. Attached is a report identifying some of the main water policy issues facing agricultural producers in Texas, including groundwater regulation, federal regulation of waters, surface water restrictions as well as brackish usage.
